I am always intrigued when artists release solo projects and new music. It gives a new insight to what they are capable of and what they enjoy. I have been a fan of Justin for the last three years and both bands he has been a part of. When he made the switch from Ice Nine Kills to Motionless In White I was incredibly excited for him. I still stand by the fact that he may be one of the best live performers out there right now, he gets so into everything he does, and Cipher Sight is no different.
Cipher Sight is Justin Morrow’s (formerly of Ice Nine Kills and now of Motionless In White) new solo project. His first release is titled “Icons Crown” and it features Justin Deblieck of Ice Nine Kills and I am absolutely in LOVE with everything about it.
The song starts off with vibes from IT is The End, or in other words, spooky carnival sounds and then slowly progresses into some synth metal and I am honestly so so so here for it. Plus the chorus is so insane and intense, if anything screams “yelling lyrics back to someone on stage” its this chorus. Obviously we have to add some extra attitude to the tune with the “na, na, na” section and I think it ads to the song and the message a lot. Plus its just a ton of fun. Then following it with a slower, almost secondary, bridge type section before a final rendition of the chorus and then ending the song on more “na na na”‘s creates an ending cycle for a song that is a personality of its own.
I am absolutely in love with this song and have so much respect and admiration for Justin as a musician and performer. This song is super promising for his project and I am so excited for more. Solo projects are an artists highlight for themselves and the artistry is so apparent in this song. I would just like to say that I seriously hope, even from this song alone, that when shows start up again we have enough material from “Cipher Sight” for a tour because I think it would be such a phenomenal live experience.
