I am always looking for new music to listen to. I love to discover new sounds and songs and artists. When the opportunity to listen to the duo Ask Carol, I could not say no. Ask Carol is based out of Norway and has an alternative-pop sound. The duo consists of Karoline (Carol) and Mr. Ask.
Ask Carol has one self-titled EP and an array of singles to go along with it! They have toured internationally and have played multiple different festivals in the Norway area. They continue to grow as a band and expand their following.
The first song that I listened to was their new single “Run With You.” The energy that they bring to this song is incredible. It is upbeat and their grunge take on pop is clear and enjoyable. It makes me want to get up an dance and just shake.
As I continued to listen to their music, I got an overwhelming feeling of content. The sound that they have reminds me so much of underground punk from the 90s-era. It shoots me back in time and makes me want to grab the black eyeliner and my Docs and head to someone’s basement to rock. In addition to this, I see where their pop-side does come in. It is very clearly a mix of the two. They have a more upbeat sound than typical punk music, which helps to balance the heavier side.
Lastly, I have never seen this band live, but I would definitely take the time and money to do so if I could. The videos that Ask Carol have range from live music to produced music videos. The way they command the audience that they are singing to (even just over the internet) is unbelievable. The stage presence they have is not something to be messed with, even just watching it from my bedroom! I am super excited to see where Ask Carol continues to go with their music career.
