Warped Tour 2015 was the very first time I ever attended the tour. The Amity Affliction opened my day and I was blown away by their live performance. I have been lucky enough to have the chance to see them three times total and they hold a special place in my heart as they were one of the first heavy bands that I fell in love with.
On February 21, the band dropped their eighth studio album Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them and my heart and emotional state was not at all prepared for what it witnessed.
This album is beautifully real and raw. TAA have always been one of the most emotional bands that I have had the privlage to listen to and I couldn’t respect them more than I do now. The songs on this album are sad, deep, and relatable to those in times of struggle. I have always looked to Amity for comforting music when I don’t feel like I have anywhere to turn and I don’t think that will ever change, and if it were to change, it’s not changing anytime soon and this new record proves that.
Musically, every song on this album is crafted in a unique way and has at least one riff or verse that is executed so perfectly that you cant help but fall in love with it. You can go from banging your head aggressively to swaying along all in one song. Joel’s vocals here stand out so much and are highlighted so well and in such a different way than they were in Amity’s earlier releases. Ahren has a lot more melodic vocals than what I am used to hearing from the band and I love every second of it. I can’t find a flaw in any of it.
It’s truly one of the most amazing listens, records, experiences, projects, whatever you want to call it. I don’t even know exactly how to put into words how much this album speaks to me. I fell in love with it all after the first listen. TAA are always open and honest in their music and that didn’t change with this record, and I hope it never will.
